IGF-1 LR3

One milligram, split very small.

IGF-1 LR3 arrives in 1 mg vials and is dosed in tens of micrograms, which is the widest vial to dose ratio of anything on this site.

The science

The hardest measurement problem in this category

01

IGF-1 LR3 is a modified form of insulin-like growth factor 1, altered to extend how long it remains active. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder, almost always in 1 mg vials, and occasionally 2 mg.

02

The doses discussed are in the region of 20 to 50 micrograms, which is between one fiftieth and one twentieth of a 1 mg vial. That ratio is wider than anything else covered here, and it makes measurement rather than arithmetic the binding constraint.

03

Work it through. A 1 mg vial in 1 ml is 1 mg per ml, so a 40 mcg dose is 0.04 ml, which is 4 units. Readable, but a single unit of error is a quarter of the dose. Reconstitute the same vial with 2 ml and the dose becomes 8 units, where the same absolute error is half as significant in proportion.

04

This is the clearest case on the site for choosing a generous water volume. The tradeoff is that a 1 mg vial in 2 ml holds 2 ml of solution for perhaps twenty doses, which has to be used inside a storage window or discarded.

Lookup

1 mg and 2 mg vials at each water volume

Doses of a few tens of micrograms from a 1 mg vial are the hardest measurement problem in this category. The table shows which reconstitutions make them readable.

A dot marks a combination that falls under two units or overflows a 100-unit barrel. Both are hard to measure accurately, so they are worth avoiding rather than eyeballing.

Regulatory status

A growth factor, and prohibited in sport

IGF-1 LR3 has not been approved for human use by the FDA or any comparable regulator. There is no prescribing information and no official dose.

Insulin-like growth factor 1 and its analogues are named explicitly in the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list under the section covering peptide hormones, growth factors and related substances. It is prohibited at all times, in and out of competition.

The extreme ratio between vial and dose also means an inaccurate label has a proportionally larger effect here than elsewhere. The arithmetic assumes the milligram figure is correct, and research chemical supply provides no assurance that it is.

FAQ

Common questions

How many units is 40 mcg of IGF-1 LR3?

From a 1 mg vial reconstituted with 2 ml, the concentration is 0.5 mg per ml, so 40 mcg is 0.08 ml, which is 8 units on a U-100 syringe. From the same vial in 1 ml it is 4 units. With doses this small the water volume is the difference between a readable mark and a guess.

How much bacteriostatic water for a 1 mg IGF-1 LR3 vial?

More than feels necessary. Two millilitres puts a 40 mcg dose at 8 units; one millilitre puts it at 4. Because the doses are tiny, a generous reconstitution is the main thing standing between you and a measurement error that is a large fraction of the dose.

Why is IGF-1 LR3 so hard to dose accurately?

Because the ratio between the vial and the dose is extreme. A 1 mg vial contains perhaps twenty five doses of 40 mcg, so each dose is a very small fraction of the whole. Every other peptide on this site has a more forgiving ratio, and the usual advice about keeping a dose above two units matters more here than anywhere else.

What does the LR3 part mean?

It refers to a modification of the IGF-1 molecule that extends its half-life compared with the unmodified form. The change affects how long it remains active, not how it is measured, so the reconstitution arithmetic is the same as for any other peptide supplied by mass.

Is IGF-1 LR3 approved for human use?

No. It has not been approved by the FDA or any comparable regulator and is sold as a research chemical. Growth factors are explicitly prohibited in tested sport. The calculator performs arithmetic on numbers you enter and does not suggest that an established human dose exists.
